All the underlined words means setting a home in a way that a witch or anyone who may want to send hi ghosts, goblins, tikoloshes and evil spirits won’t manage, it means binding and fastening, protect the home and prevent it; put to a stop anything that may be troubling this particular home magically, mysteriously, ghostly and so on—Ukubethela isikhonkwane ekhaya in Mzilikazi’s Ndebele language of Zimbabwe. Ukuqinisa umuzi in Zulu language of South Africa. Ufhara mudi in Venda language of South Africa.
In a true healing, ukubethela umuzi does not mean only working on a home by Inyanga, Sangoma or a prophet only on the walls, houses, the yard soil and the property, it also means binding and fastening the people’s bodies so that they won’t comply to any magic, diseases and the above mentioned problems when they are sent to them. The binding of the body guaranties the protection of the body even if the person is outside that home of his. The binding of the home and that of the body must comply with each other.
Ukubethela umuzi / Ukuqinisa umuzi/ Ufhara mudi is not a new thing for an African family, even most African Christian families do that to their homes but they will always keep it a secret, it is with the fact that most of the African Christians were brought up in the homes that were worked upon by traditional healers for protection and various problems. When those problems strike again even if the person has been converted to Christianity, the first thing he/she will think of is the help in the way of his/her forefathers (the African way) because the prayers will be taking too long. He/she will be in need of something very near and practical (the help of a traditional healer (Me Khokhovula) even pastors and bishops use traditional healers to do the same in their homes they always keep it confidential, private and a secret.
Ukubethela or kuqinisa umuzi comes in different ways depending on the nknowledge, the tools and the medicine that Inyanga, Sangoma and a Prophet use. These differences are the ones that determine the strength and the fastening of the home and its people. In some cases if a home is well worked upon, with strong and lasting muthi used, you find a witch caught and not able to live your home in the morning. In other forms, if a somebody sends you Tikoloshe, Zwitudwane, Zvikwambu, Mantindane, Umkhoba, Umkhovu, Zvidoma;( all these are goblins in different languages) your home becomes invisible that the said things get lost.
Some traditional healers depending on their knowhow, they make your home appear a small home inside the dam or a sea. This one is a winning one because it looks strange to the attacker (witches) they wouldn’t want to drown or get into the small-small houses where they won’t be able to fit in.
Some will bind a home that if a witch tempers with it he/she will see her/himself hanging on the long-long cliff. What impresses me so much is that I know witches have got their media, they make each other aware of dangers, they always break the news about dangerous and deadly homes that a fastened by traditional healers. Isikhonkwane is needed in every home, especially those that have been victims of witch and psychic attacks.
There is something that people have not realized, If you put too many Zikhonkwane from too many different people in your home without destroying the previous once, you are kind of bewitching yourself. A proper traditional healer, inyanga, sangoma like Khokhovula will destroy the previous izikhonkwane first and then put one strong one that is uncontested.
If there are too many of izikhonkwane, they will start to fight for a territorial leader ship and authority (fighting for power over one another) and lose concentration of the fight against the common enemy to their fate. Then the family and their home suffer those consequences.
